Phillips S. “Phil” Baker Jr. has nearly four decades of mining industry experience, including 21 years as Chief Executive Officer of Hecla Mining Company before his retirement in 2024. Under his leadership, Hecla strengthened its position as the largest silver producer in the U.S. and Canada through a strategic portfolio of long-lived silver and gold assets. Prior to Hecla, he served as CFO of Battle Mountain Gold and Pegasus Gold and has held officer or director roles at numerous public companies since 1990. He currently serves on the boards of Fury Gold Mines and Dateline Resources.
Mr. Baker served as Chairman of the National Mining Association from 2017 to 2020 and spent 12 years on its executive committee. He has also served on the executive committee of The Silver Institute for more than two decades, including two terms as chairman, and currently represents San Cristobal Mining on The Silver Institute’s executive committee. He received the SME AIME William Lawrence Saunders Gold Medal in 2017 and CIM’s Selwyn Blaylock Canadian Mining Excellence Award in 2023.
